He’s not just fighting for a title — he’s fighting to be seen.

In the heart of Baltimore, Malik, a 15-year-old Black teenager, hustles on street corners with a spray bottle and a squeegee — cleaning windshields to get by and stay out of trouble. Raised in a world that often overlooks boys like him, Malik has learned to survive with grit, loyalty, and silence.

But everything changes the day he meets Mrs. Wellington, a sharp-tongued, wealthy woman who sees something in him that no one else has: potential. When she introduces him to the elite world of competitive dog shows and places a rare brindle Whippet named Lexi in his care, Malik is thrust into a space he was never meant to belong — or so they think.

With the help of Red, a former street legend with his own buried past, Malik begins training Lexi for the prestigious Westminster Dog Show. Along the way, he faces judgment, doubt, and challenges both in the ring and in the mirror. As Malik fights to prove he’s more than his zip code or his scars, he begins to understand what it truly means to be an Alpha — not through dominance, but through courage, character, and love.

About the Author

Willie “Art” Mills is a proud U.S. Air Force veteran and a dedicated public servant, bringing over 30 years of experience in the federal government. Known for his unwavering belief in justice, dignity, and the power of storytelling, Will has always stood with the underdog. Whether in policy rooms or creative spaces, his mission remains the same: to make people feel seen.

Willie is the kind of man who always has a smile on his face and a well-timed joke, even in high-stress moments. His humor and warmth have carried him through boardrooms, battlefields, and now, book pages—helping others breathe a little easier and laugh a little louder.

He believes that within every person lies the quiet, urgent desire to be recognized—not for who the world expects them to be, but for who they truly are. This core belief fuels his writing.

In his debut novel, Alpha, Willie shines a light on a figure too often overlooked: a so-called “squeegee boy” from the streets of Baltimore. But through Will’s lens, this young man is no statistic—he’s a superhero in the making. Gritty, moving, and full of hope, Alpha is just the beginning of Willie's journey to uplift voices that matter.
